March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month and the Jay County Hospital Foundation will again be providing free at-home screening kits during the month of March.

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, and yet it is one of the most preventable types of cancer, and often curable when detected early with screening tests. At least 6 out of every 10 deaths from Colon Cancer could be prevented if all men and women aged 50 years or older were screened routinely.

Screening kits can be picked up at the Jay County Hospital Information Desk or at Family First Healthcare, Family Practice of Jay County, Jay Family Medicine, Tri County Surgery and MeridianMD West Jay Clinic.

If you’re 50 years or older, talk to your Healthcare Provider today and get screened.

Symptoms:

*Blood in or on your stool (bowel movement).

*Stomach pain, aches, or cramps that do not go away.

*Losing weight and you don't know why.

These symptoms may be caused by something other than cancer, but the only way to know is to speak with your healthcare provider about them.

Increased Risk:

*Inflammatory bowel disease

*Personal or family history of colorectal polyps or colorectal cancer

*Genetic syndromes like familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) or hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (also known as Lynch syndrome)

Colorectal Cancer tests save lives...The best test is the test that gets done.
