Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac Rehabilitation at Jay County Hospital
Dr. Jerry Whetzel and
Tammy, RN

We offer a comprehensive structured, monitored exercise program that offers patients and families support and guidance as they strive to achieve lifestyle changes to improve their health and quality of life. It is designed for patients with heart problems such as:

  • Heart attacks
  • Coronary Bypass Surgery
  • After angioplasty
  • Stable angina

The program is in two phases:

Phase I begins in the hospital as part of the treatment process and involves bedside education and information about disease process, risk factors and the benefits of exercise.

Phase II continues on an outpatient basis with a structured medically supervised program. It consists of 3 one-hour exercise sessions per week for 12 weeks. Heart rate and rhythm are continuously monitored, and blood pressure is measured before and after each session. Educational programs are ongoing, including nutrition, smoking cessation, weight management, and other methods of controlling the risk factors that are associated with heart disease. A physician prescription is required to begin this program. Medicare and most insurance companies cover the cost of the required tests and Rehabilitation Sessions.
