The Jay County Hospital’s Level 3 Emergency Department is staffed
24 hours a day, year round, by a team of highly qualified healthcare professionals
trained to handle all types of emergencies. Our Emergency Department physicians
and nurses are required to have certification in Advanced Cardiac Life
Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Our physicians have certification
in Advanced Trauma Life Support. When it is determined a patient requires
more specialized treatment available in a larger trauma facility, the
Jay County Hospital is supported by Samaritan or Lifeline Helicopter and
paramedic ground transportation.
When to make a trip to the Emergency Department:
- Emergency Warning Signs
- Chest Pain
- Changes in level of consciousness
- Choking
- Difficulty Breathing or shortness of breath
- New onset of numbness, tingling, weakness of an extremity
- Severe injuries, especially those that affect the head, abdomen, neck
or back
- Sudden severe pain occurring anywhere in your body from any reason,
whether it is from a known or unknown cause Sudden dizziness, headache
or change in vision
- Weakness, fainting or feeling as if you are going to pass out
- Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
- Having thoughts of suicide or homicide
- New onset of seizures or convulsion
- Poisoning or taking an overdose of medications
- Significant amount of bleeding from the vagina, rectum or when vomiting.
- Bleeding from wounds that is not controlled despite pressure
- Major burns
